Hello and Welcome
Established in 1949, we are a small, friendly society dedicated to preserving, promoting, and increasing the population of this historic breed.
The breed originated in the Welsh counties of Radnorshire, Breconshire, and Monmouthshire, with a presence extending across the border into Herefordshire. Unfortunately, this geographic concentration—along with other factors—led to the Hill Radnor being placed under the protection of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust in 1993, when it was classified as “Vulnerable.”
Thanks to the commitment and hard work of breeders in recent years, ewe numbers have risen from this historic low, and the breed has now progressed to the “At Risk” category. We are also seeing a steady increase in Breed Society membership and the establishment of new flocks well beyond the breed’s original heartland. This renewed enthusiasm is extremely encouraging, and we look forward to supporting the continued growth of the Hill Radnor breed.
